Barns-Graham spent her 1992 visit to Lanzarote by focusing on one site.

11 March

Barns-Graham arrives in Lanzarote.

13 March

She goes on a long drive from Nazaret to San Bartolomé.

14 March

Barns-Graham travels to draw some congealed lava near Haría;

“my eye and hand out of practice” (WBG/4/1/55/3).

She struggles with this detailed subject.

15 March

Barns-Graham goes to look at Graciosa, another of the Canary Islands that can be seen from the coast of Lanzarote. While there she sees some sculpture that she does not enjoy but she also sees some “impressive and fierce scenery” (WBG/4/1/55/3).

16 March

“It’s time I tried to paint in abstract I feel but am put off by situation a bit” (WBG/4/1/55/4)

17 March

A day of socialising. She works with her friend Maureen. She then goes with some friends to Lourdes’ and Lalo’s house, local people that she had met on a previous trip to the island.

20 March

She has lunch at Playa Blanca, then goes to La Geria, a favourite location of hers across all her trips, and begins some more drawings.

21 March

23 March

She returns to the lava site for the final time, and then to Costa Teguise for a swim. Following this, she goes with Maureen to see some lava near Arrecife and takes some photos before having dinner with friends.
